Many thanks to all of you for your swift response! I like this crossword which I have only just discovered...it's much more straightforward than the Spectator for me!

Do discover the others. Any Times xwd is the perfect pabulum. As a new boy I posted a comment on ALAN on an extinct thread: I had the advantage of having a friend called Alan with a malaise ascribed to Malays. So well done to the setter (or the anagramming software I suspect setters of using). I'm not the only one not using this site sensibly: people keep asking the same questions, as here!
