Samos - a spicy pastry and Greek Island.
'Term wanted' means 'miss the end off'. So take the end off samosa to give the answer Samos.

Good morning K and thank you....term being the end ... so samos(a) doh! regards judy
A spicy pastry is surely a samosa. I wasn't quite sure how a qualified as a 'term', however. Perhaps it's listed as such in the Chambers 2008, which I do not yet have. Alternatively, as K says, maybe a samosa is now also called a samos.
Whatever, I agree the answer is samos.
Ah...a flurry of responses! Only one was here when I started to type.

Thanks also to Quizmonkey. (I've spent the last hour or so researching Greek pastries....LOL this has not been a good week!)
Isn't the "A" the "term" needed to convert SAMOS into SAMOSA?

Thanks to Quizmonster too! term is listed in Chambers (1998) as a limit, boundary (archaic)

Hi Judy

The phone rang and by the time I got back my good friend QM1 had explained all!

Hi K - I feel a complete duffer...fancy missing something so obvious!
I finally got round to watching the TV programme you recommended...the one about cryptic crosswords. Very enjoyable - Tim Moorey is as jolly as I had imagined him to be. I always enjoy his crosswords..... unless Greek pastries are involved.. :o)
