Lawrence?
Question Author
it seemed that to me, but i couldn't figure the roasting.
Do you suggest D.H or T.E
Interesting point, I would suggest DH for a couple of reasons.
TE was not a true novelist. Everything he wrote was effectively about what occurred to him in his life....
However the clincher would be this:
"After Lawrence died near Vence, France in 1930, Frieda returned to New Mexico to live. In 1934, she had Lawrence's body exhumed, cremated and his ashes brought to the ranch to be housed in a small memorial chapel"
It may refer to the fact that DH Lawrence was cremated, but if that's the case, it's pretty poor.
Roasted peanuts ;-) Would never be cremated- yuk!! Want to be burried whole in an eco-coffin( Willow or cardboard) in a church burial. Just find burials more dignified than cremations anyhow. Less traumatic funerals have attended have been burials not cremations, too. Ciao, Bea :-)
peanuts 247 - did not mean to be disrespectful, typed message then thought oh my gosh- may not have come across well. Just you talking of peanuts- thought of dry roasted peanuts- lateral thinking, knights move! Lawrence was probably berated/roasted over his controversial literature methinks. Hugs, Bea :-)

thank you pbeach. i think that clinches it!
I think this clue is referring to two Lawrences.

D H Lawrence - the novelist.

St. Lawrence - who was martyred bt being burned to death on a grill.
Rollo that's an excellent suggestion, but, if so, there is nothing in the clue to indicate that two people are involved. I guess, once again, the answer is correct but we will never know the setter's logic.
