Cutting off 'electric' halfway through only gives you 'elec' anyway. I'm obviously missing something glaringly obvious here, but we really need to explain 'tion', not just 'ion'. The definition of 'ion' you kindly spelled out, doesn't really show how the letters of 'election' are obtained . . . .

Okay so my explanation was not spot on even though worked out that it was Election- right answer. Yet, my working out does still kind of make sense( maybe there are 2 ways of seeing the answer anyhow). Not interested in your opinions ever Cat- when will you realise this?!

Part of the problem is that the clue, as posted, was incomplete. The second half should have read -'leading INTO chaos'

Therefore pbeach was almost correct with his explanation-
ELEC ( Electricity halfway through) leading to TION (anagram/ chaos INTO)
