Whew! Almost there! I just have to make sense of 28d: 'Company follows branch producing safety barrier'.I have ARMC?, and logically the answer would be ARMCO, but why?

I was just about to post a question asking the same thing. I've previously seen well-known companies used in the clues but ARMCO could hardly be considered in that category. BIRO & COKE might be ok but they get mentioned in dictionaries already and are known world-wide
