I associate it with Michael Bentine . Not when he was in the Goons, but when he used to do It's a Square World or a programme like that.
I'm sure he used NURDLE in a description of an imaginary game...so it may have been on the radio rather thanthe TV.

I must admit to being a big fan of Around the Horne especially RSR and though as I say I first heard the expression in regards to cricket its the sort of word that deserved to have been invented by Sid and perhaps it was I dont know when it was inserted into the Dictionary but here it is
