Would fit with the initial letters and both 7. But can't see why other than that.

You should have made it clear that the clue is actually two non-overlapping clues with two unrelated 7-letter answers - which are FANTADS and NAE MOWS, I think.

I thought it was FANTODS

Chambers gives FANTODS as well as FANTADS, but TAD=little bit decided it for me.
