28d Second marsh holds antelope up before start of drought - it reverts to type. (2 words) S_UNG followed by an indeterminate number of letters. Also any suggestions for a reliable source of 40. Everything else finished and highlighted. Help.

If you understand the question (derived from extra letters in across clues) in conjunction with the title, you should understand what's required at 40ac (you will need to do appropriate research to find the answer itself) If you can successfully answer 28d, it should also be clearer what sort of thing is required at 40 ac!

For 28d you alrealy have the antelope. And you know the answer containd the "first of drought". You just need the word for the marsh which I can say has four letters.

If you have already highlighted the relevant words then you know what the theme is. I suggest you look on the official web site of the theme for the answer to 40a.

I know what the theme is , but I have not been able to find the relevant words to be highlighted, except for the obvious five letter one. The 10, and the 14 - two words - I am afraid escape me.

Rollo, if you're still looking for the 10 letter word, look for a nine letter word which represents how many choices you might have in the theme, and add a final letter to create an alternative noun. The 14 letter splits 10 and 4, and indicate what you might be taking if you enter into the theme
