5d - RECHABITE - (can't remember how I got this)
13D - NUMBSKULL (NUM (miners union) + row (as in oar) and B (bishop) intervening
16D - TENDEREST (anagram detergents withouth G)
5D - HABIT (usual practice) in CE (church), starting with RE (religious education). Knew I must have worked it out somehow.
1d Quasimodo
Que becker
16d Tenderest = Anagram of detergents less the g.
I seem to remember that Quasimodo was so called because he was born on Low Sunday (1st Sunday after Easter) and the opening word of a prayer used in the mass on that Sunday was Quasimodo. Or there again, I might be completely wrong as it's a long time since I read The Hunchback of Notre Dame or went to church.
