Would someone be kind enough to help me with the first letter of 16 down and the last letter of 25 down.Also as I am new to to this crossword I would be grateful as to a hint as to the manner in which the "when" mentioned in the preamble is to be highlighted . Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks kakakamini but how do you highlight outside the grid -is it a date and if so how do you signify the year?

But might the expectation be that the opening squares of 19a and 33d are highlighted? It strikes me that only the grid is printed to show the correct solution.
The instructions here are ambiguous, in my view - I was also rather thrown by the instruction to 'erase' the further example, which I assume we're to take literally (ie enter it and then rub/scrape it out). Er, what's the point of that?
