I have finished, almost.
I cannot make head or tail of 30 Down.
I have (I think) the answer, but don\'t understand the, \"France and German\" part.
Any gentle hints.please

I also struggled to grasp that clue. Sorted now.
I was also convinced (by the title) that the originator was the bear in row 4 of the grid! Doh!!

I'm still puzzled by the cryptic quotation.Do the originator and the subject consist of an 8 letter word and a 6 letter word? Thanks
