So near and yet so far... I have now solved everything except 1D. Could someone give me a gentle nudge? I would also appreciate a slight hint as to one or more of the three words in 8D; I have the "wrapping" from the subsdiary indications, but the three words elude me so far.

a nudge on 1d: the 3 words in order are defined by compress/one-time engineer/SA plant.

For 8d, "curving inwards" is the parcel.

Am in wrong in finding an extra "H" in 22a?

Yes DrB I think you are wrong - that H should be there

Yes I finally realized the online and printed versions are different! 22a in the print version is correct, but was wrong in the online version I was working.

Thanks to you all! I managed to get 1D myself. Rather than struggle to solve 8D completely, I will now devote my time to trying to devise a clue for 32A.

Wow, that was hard work. I've not spent much time thinking about a clue to 32A, but just enough to appreciate the skill AZED has shown in producing such tidy clues containing three definitions and a letter mixture (or the down equivalents). Many thanks, AZED: once I got going I enjoyed this one.
