Can anyone explain to me why 10a Half-hearted Indian ready once for literary gossip (3) was ANA, please? I can neither see the construction, nor the meaning of the answer. Thanks.

An anna was an Indian coin (ready = money) so half-hearted means get rid of one of the double Ns, thus ana

Chambers defines ana as "a collection of anecdotes, literary gossip, special possessions, etc, especially one that belongs or relates to an author."
