Nearly finished but would like help explaining some answers and one that I'm stuck on.:

40 ac: Bawd keeping old dog in cupboard (9). I reckon PROCURESS but why? Maybe "O" = old; "CUR" = dog. But where does PRESS and cupboard fit in?

54 ac: She wrote agreeably in two languages (5). I reckon OUIDA but why? She is a novelist. Maybe "OUI" french for yes; and "DA" for what? Is this "yes" in anothe language?

22 dn: Deity taking note of company of singers (5). I have H_R_S. I think maybe HORUS as a god by removing the "C" from CHORUS? Anyone agree?

8 dn: Flower essential for horticulturalist (4). I have U_A_. Is there a river here somewhere?
