Some locking of horns recorded by Howell (5)

D-E-L

The only word I can think of is DWELL, but don't know what that's got to do with Howell. Or could it be an archaic spelling of DUEL?

This is very tenuous but I was trying to connect Death's Duell the title of a sermon by John Donne with James Howell an author from around the same time. Have a Google and see what you think.

I've looked a lot at James Howell, but can't find any obvious example of him using the word "duell".
Not certain of this but James Howell was injured when separating two friends in a duel. I think there may be a reference to this in his Epistolae Ho-Elianae, but I can't open it up as it requires a subscription. If he did mention it he likely would have used the same spelling as Donne and Lovelace - duell.

Duell must be right, I suppose. Thanks for your help.
