Hello EV N&C Wine Clubbers,
If my memory serves me well, this theme appeared in The Speccie not too long ago, so the training was useful. The second, but unrelated theme added weight to the enjoyment of solving this EV.
Time for a Tempranillo!

Evening, DocHH, yes a pleasant offering from Samuel, and following your train of thought, I think I'll have something cold and white. Not sure about the wordplay in 1D, but otherwise it all fell into place.
Doc, I'd have to say that the added theme subtracted quite a bit of weight.

I knew we'd seen this theme recently but could not recall where. 65 degrees today! Time to enjoy an early spring.
Tanked through that quite nicely once I got up a good head of steam. It's a weight off my mind for the weekend.

Hello All,
Copelander, 1d checks out in the BRB, but I'm also not entirely happy about the wordplay. Off to Bruxelles on thursday, back on saturday, by Eurostar, hope they manage a decent "Leisure Select" service. Am travelling at lunchtime on both trips, so should get champers on alighting, drink(s) before, wine with and digestif(s) with coffee. Herself has said she will meet me at St Pancras on my return, and wants to be taken to the Champagne Bar! I doubt if I will get away with just taking her there, and may have to allow her more than a sniff of the white cold nectar! However that will be the last working day for me this tax year!
Evening all.
An enjoyable EV from Samuel, leaving a bit of time for the garden.

I think 1d is an archaic 7 letter word for "toss a coin" with S (a dollar) substituted for
T (it).
Thank you Slaney and DocHH, it makes sense now. Dochh we will miss each other by a day x2. I will be in St Pancras on Fri and again on Sunday...... how spooky is that?
Clearly I need more training to keep up with the rest of you.
Ah, Andrew, with that wretched pun you have proven every bit our equal.....
Totally echo that last sentiment Dr B. At least we all seem to be on the main track this week and not shunted off to some siding.
Enough of this tawdry banter!
Thank you vere much.
Wil Bert be here later?
Good evening all. Finally made a start this afternoon and soon got up a good head of steam, though not quite at journey's end yet.
Well, you're all obviously of a certain age
Hello N & Cer's. I'm sort of half in the DC this week, have got the 6, the 16 and the diagonal but am not on the same wave length as the 10 (5 + 5) have got 3 of them all with similar (seemingly) removable letters but don't see the connection! Also having some trouble with the word-play on some of the answers.
Did post this on last week but you had all 'legged' it by then, so will ask again.......any suggestions for where Himself can take me for a commiseration dinner au deaux to mark 30 years hard labour when in London on 22nd? Staying in Bloomsbury.
Hi Devadolly!

Sorry I can't help with suggestions for the big celebration.

As far as the removed letters are concerned think what the diagonal would help you remove and think of two relevant abbreviations. If you pound your brains long enough you'll say "Stone the crows!".
OOOOOOHHHHHHH! Would it have anything to do with a number of snow leopards Novalis? Or am I really down a dead end?
Devadolly, I don't know any restaurants in the Bloomsbury area but the following link is a decent online guide for London restuarants.

If you are not particularly wedded to Bloomsbury (and like fish) then I do think that Scotts on Mount Steet in Mayfair is great.
Hi Devadolly!

Yes, 16 to be precise and 14 of the result.
Thank you Andrew G-S, will try that, not wedded to B but like fairly easy access from hotel. Cafe des Amis is always a good fall-back in Covent G and there is an excellent place on Longacre that I have forgotten the name of..................! But always looking for new establishments.
Thank you Novalis, have rattled along nicely now!
