The answer to this appears to be 'Wanda', but can anyone square that with the instruction that all the alphabetical clues are 'of a kind'? It doesn't seem to be of that kind at all!

W - and she couldn't be (stray?)
Hi bathtub

As the theme was flowers, and some solutions were from 'left field', I concluded that
the River Wanda ( other type of 'flower) was acceptable.
...and "wander" = stray ?
Wanda is a common variety of primula.

Thanks for the replies. I'm familiar with primula 'Wanda' (and I'd got the 'stray' Iconnection and the 'fish' of the same name, thanks).

K, your explanation is the right one, I'm sure.

I have huge admiration and respect for Araucaria. He's given me decades of entertainment and long may he continue. But this wasn't, I think, his finest hour. Even libertarian setting must have its limits!
