I bought my Brewer very recently on Amazon - 18th edition - £16.72 (r.r.p. £30 so it was a good deal)

Yes, I've just responded to your other query with the same info. 18th Edition, published in 2009, but the same facts that you need for this crossword, for example, are in the 17th and previous editions.

This reminded me of one of the worst, albeit clean, jokes I've ever heard!
I reckon that Doc has shares in the publishers of Brewers and that, when he is the compiler, Brewers should be offered instead of Chambers.

Possibly your answer is 'rears out' (troublé, as Doc would say en français).

As someone with an interest (and some expertise) in meteorology and aviation, I have to say this is an over-reaction on the scale of the bird and swine flu panics, but realistically it's unlikely the flight ban will be lifted quickly. If it is relaxed for a while, it will probably be reimposed as a NW airflow sets in over the weekend.

I don't usually have a problem with Doc's crosswords but I am completely stuck on this. I can't find anything appropriate in Brewer. HOW as a hint hasn't helped me; any more tips, please?

Thanks bathtub. Back after hopping on and off trains and using someone else's ticket on eurostar (they were stuck in dubai). hairy moments hoping that passport and ticket wouldn't be checked together.
