Thanks for the link.

I nearly made a 6d by trying to download your avatar!

An enjoyable, if straightforward, puzzle.

Cheers.

You're most welcome everyone ! By all means print off the grid - it is an active puzzle and I've even given you a start if you look closely !
Hi, Cruciverbalist. How do I print this? I'm not very technically skilled.

Hi zita-green - double click, then right click the larger image and either print directly or copy to a Word document and enlarge slightly before printing (resolution won't be brilliant I'm afraid)
Must be slow today; for 42 ac I have _o_dr_eve and I can't find a word to fit.
Woodreeve....Woe (misery
Many thanks for link
I have filled the grid and I believe I have located the 4 'actions' in the italicised clues.

The final step regarding the unclued lights is confusing me. Can someone please advise?
The four clues in italics containing words which relate to 43a.

The full answers to the four clues can be connected to the 4 unclued lights.

3d relates to 40a
20d " 13a
5d " 18a
35a " 29a

Hope that helps.
Can't quite get the last pair 29/35. I can only see strife. Maybe chuck is wrong at 25
35a is Conteck which is 'strife' (29a)
Lubumbashi!

Chuck is right as is strife. You need an obscure synonym for the latter. For 35 across you need a 5 letter word for strike. Remove its last letter and reverse it before you put the three letter "filling" in. For that think private eye.
Thanks Kayakamina, that's what I guessed but it's not in my OEDs or on google. Good puzzle all the same.
Thanks too Novalis. Obscure indeed.
