Spitcher is a great word, which I've heard in use (my late father-in-law was a naval architect). Possibly the only English word derived from Maltese.

The OED lists 4 words with "Maltese" in the etymology (other than entries like "Maltese cross" - love that advanced search function). But 3 of them - dghaisa, karrozzin, and lampuki - are just Maltese words. So you would appear to be correct.
