Listener 4094: Wet Wet Wet by Lato

A much bigger challenge, I thought this week, with some very clever plays involved in creating the group members. Lots of lovely pennies dropping all the way through. I'd be interested to see how soon the theme dawned on other solvers, and whether that helped in the more conventional solving process. Congratulations to Lato on a fine piece of work. Happy solving, everyone!

I found it such a slow start that I really wasn't, on Saturday, expecting to finish it at all. 18d down presented problems for me too - but mainly due to the fact of inadvertently writing the answer to 16d there, instead of its proper place - doh! But eventually got to the PDMs from what was maybe the wrong end end. i.e working out what word the misprints formed -and then linking them with an answer to get the location- after which it was plain sailing.
Love the banter on these threads. Amazed that some people solve this before I even get the paper on Saturday afternoon (how do you do this ?), On a previous thread, are there people who are competitive enough to really care about metrics sent to them from Green Lane ?
I do not send in my soultions - I find the intellectual challenge of the puzzles sufficient in themselves for me, without the need to buy sometimes the correct highlighters to send a perfect solution . My first point of call each week is however the Killer Soduku which I love (goes perfectly with a glass of beer).
Picking up on another thread, Depending on our experience we should use whatever tools we feel comfortable using. For myself I was given access to a soft copy of Chambers and thought it ruined all my fun of the challenge so deleted it. It is always however a fight between yourself and the setter and that really is the fun,
Anyone agree /disagree ?

Checking in - at last. Various things have conspired against us finding time to get to the crossword this week and didn't want to check out the comments until it was done and dusted (or not done and desperate!). For us the extra letters were the defining pdm. All a very nicely put together piece of work - and as mentioned earlier, lots to find. Last clue - 18d... Now about to jump in the jalopy and head north - I hope the sun has come out there now.
