How to avoid being a very annoying customer

Here are some tips I thought of when working on Saturday, feel free to add more--

Scenario 1- The item doesn't scan- this does not mean it 'Must be free'

Scenario 2- The cashier uses a pen to check all notes for forgeries- this shouldn't be an opportunity to practise comedy comebacks like 'I made that this morning!'

Scenario 3- The cashier holds out their hand and states the cost of the items- they are not just holding it there for fun, money should be put in their hand, not on the counter.

Scenario 4- It is a very very hot day outside you (the customer) state this fact to the cashier- do not be offended by the murderous looks you are now receiving, they are wondering how you could have the cheek to say this when they are stuck inside away from the lovely sunshine

Scenario 5- An item is on buy one get one free there is only one of said item left, do not be annoyed when you can only buy one and not get the 'one free' the clue is in the T&Cs (subject to availability)

Scenario 6- An item you want to buy is more than you expected so you complain to a shop assistant- this will get you nowhere, they do not set the prices and are probably wondering why you don't just go somewhere else.

Scenario 7 - Cashiers, do not engage me in banal chat such as asking me how is my day or what my plans for the weekend are. These are questions my friends ask me. Your job is to sell me the milk I have come in to the shop to buy.

Same goes for customers- so many of them want to tell me their life story- all I asked was if they wanted a carrier bag!
Oi sophie_1003 you cheeky sod, you've just given us your life story in your question title!
Maybe you should re-consider your career choice.
Yes I think sophie will be happier in an outside job where she can enjoy the whole two weeks sunshine a year that we get and then spend the rest of the year drenched and complaining as she looks through the Tesco's window at a cashier saying they must have the dream job! :)
Hmmmm re scenario 3......I hate cashiers who stick their hand out-waiting for the money....it always seems so rude when I am either getting my cash or card together.

It's not my career choice, just something to give me extra money whilst I'm at uni!
And yes, apologise for rather long question title!

I don't mind not sticking my hand out but some people seem to think this means they should put the money on the counter so I have to scrabble about picking up all their loose change then when they are waiting for their change they put their hand out! Grrr!!
DavePotts....you are being unnecessarily rude to sophie

flip_flop....the banal chat does not bother me too much....better than no chat and surlyness
I have to admit that we have some great young student cashiers in Morrisons where I live. The young lads are heaps nicer than the gals though. Always good for a laugh and a bit of banter. The girls look more fed up and moody. The boys' attitude seems to be, "well I don't particularly like this job but, hey I might as well half a laugh and a joke while I am doing it. It makes the day go quicker". The boys are more polite too.
pastafreak? I was joking with her hence the smiley at the end! :)
Sorry Sophie, this honestly isn't meant to be aimed at you. But you have to take the rough with the smooth in any job and getting fed up with the customers isn't going to help you feel better. Just smile sweetly and try to be helpful. Some of those customers (like me) hate shopping and a smiley happy cashier really does help!!
Sorry if you took offence sophie, just me and my weird sense of humour! Ill keep it on a chain from now on I promise! :)

You should come to the shop where I work Lofty- there's one lad who will say nothing at all to customers apart from the cost of their shopping! I do try to be nice, always say please and thank you and will have a chat if the customer wants one but some things just really grate on my nerves! The money on the counter one is the worst to be fair, I just find it very rude!
Maybe you should leave the shop job so that someone who needs the money for their family can have it.
I expect they'd be a whole lot pleasanter to the customers who pay their wages.
Yes, that is rude Sophie. As a shopper the thing I hate most is that whilst I am packing and trying to pay the next person in the queue comes up really close and stands right next to me looking impatients. I tell them to move away. It doesn't make it any quicker for them, in fact I slow right down and take my time paying at the card reader!!

Thanks for the career advice ladyalex, as I have explained I am very polite to customers (even the lad who told me to 'F*** of' on Saturday because I asked him for ID) I just thought I would have a tongue in cheek moan about the little annoying things some customers do!

off*
I don't think it's helpful to have a 'go' at Sophie....she is just letting off steam...as we all do-no matter what our jobs are.
I suspect she is slightly tongue-in-cheek
Then why accuse me of being rude to sophie when I had a smiley at the end of my sentence pastafreak as well as pull me up on another thread about why are my questions too deep? Are you the judge here? If I were you Id join in and have some fun instead of attempting to lambaste others!
