at first I thought it was a double meaning, I think it is simply a description of a fret, the fact that it splits the fingerboard. However, not a very good clue in my opinion

Sorry but I like the clue for SHIPMENT "In a way groovy chaps 22". If you replace 22 with cargo which is the definition for shipment you get HIP (groovy) MEN( chaps) in a way ST (short for street|) S..HIP..MEN..T
