Okay, this is deeply embarrassing but I have made a real mess of this one!

Some help with a couple of clues might get me back on track.

6d. It announces proposed laws (6,6) (I have no letters that I can be sure about).

16d. Itinerant (7) _ _ _ _ M _ _

16 nomadic?
6d queen's speech ?
Question Author
That's what I thought originally, but then I would have to come up with an OT Prophet (5) C _ _ _ M which I failed to do. And it would mean that Ruined Roman town couldnt be Pompeii at which point I throw my hands up in despair!
Question Author
Queen's Speech is a winner! Thanks Bibblebub! (Fits in nicely with Pompeii too)

OT prophet is now _ _ H _ M

And itinerant is now _ _ A _ M _ _
Queens Speech seems likely to be right.
Prophet could be CALEB (but that makes your M wrong)
Ah, prophet could be NAHUM then
Nahum was a minor prophet
roaming ? if the M is wrong
Question Author
Nahum works! That makes itinerant _ _ A _ M _ N
Swagman
Yes, roaming looks promising. Where was your M from?
how about swagman?
Question Author
Swagman fits beautifully BUT that means I have this for 15a. Showy (6) _ S _ S _ Y
flashy ? (this is starting to feel like it's going round in circles)
Maybe flashy - which comes from swagman?
What about roadman instead of swagman? It gives that in Bradfords for itinerant
FLASHY?
BRASSY?
Question Author
Roadman is working! That makes 15a. (Showy) _ R _ S _ Y which I think is DRESSY

Sorry Bibblebub, that was pretty painful, but that corner is now done! :-)
Question Author
Thank you all so much - it is finally done! This one went totally haywire - I usually have no trouble with it. Thank you all for your patience and assistance - it's most appreciated.
