I am usually able to make a start and sometimes finish listener crosswords, but I just cannot answer any of these clues, any kind person out there willing to give me one or two answers, thanks
NB. no complainers please, Id rather have no reply
bookbinder, thanks for response, these clues are complex as one letter or word must be removed from each clue and you don't know for certain how many letters in answer either.
one clue is, Clive turned right over river ( maximum 4 letters )
Hm. I see that you have a problem, gribble. If you could make a start, it would be easier. I'll have a think about the Clive clue, but I'm not optimistic.
1 across. Escape = LAM (American slang)...pressure = P...+ DIALS. These letters 'baffled' (ie anagrammed) give you ALDIS LAMP, which is a form of 'torch' used for transdmitting Morse messages. Consequently, the word 'me' in the clue is superfluous and thus the first part of the definition of the theme phrase.
That gives you six down-clue beginnings, so good luck!
I have completed the puzzle and the drawing but I am still puzzled by 23ac saleem which doesn't appear in chambers,11 down lisles (where is the seat?) and 29down loggias (how does this work?) Sorry for being so blunt with the answers but I'm catching up as you can see
sorry mullingar only just seen your post, saleem is in the name section at the back of chambers, cant remember the other questions I will keep copy in future
