The clued lights were entered quickly, but because of a silly mistake at 31
the anagram took longer than it should.

Amazingly I cottoned on to the thread and the brain seemed to perform well. Have the grid finished apart from a couple in the SE corner, have the 14 letter word but the anagram is not springing out at all. Have also not quite come to terms with the asterisk at clue 30 or in 44. Where am I going wrong I ask?
Thank you K. Think I'm there on 44a, also seem to have blundered my way to a completed grid but still not happy about the final anagram, my 2003 BRB doesn't help me on (what I believe to be) the final word.
Z-G follow the force of gravity when it comes to clashes and I noticed some previous posts are very useful re: theme.

Grid all completed .... but still don't get the connection between the unclued acrosses and the unclued downs .... and it probably doesn't help that the BRB I use is from 1990 and so contains no 14-letter words that begins as indicated (one 4 letter phrase but doesn't seem to fit the context) ... Is it really one word ? (because my new friend, Chambers Word Wizard, doesn't come up with anything either !) .... and hence anagram could be going anywhere .... and 31D looks to me like it could have two possible endings, which helps even less ... Just me, being amateur, as usual, mefeels. At least my boyz nabbed a late winner last night, which is much more important .... (be fearful, ye Hammers)
trux, one set of 5 clashing letters defines one of the groups, the other 5 letters from the clashes (taken in the same order) form the start of the 14 letter word (bearing in mind that one of the 5 "clashes" is actually an "agreement"). I had to read the preamble twice before I picked up on that. The 14 letter word is in Chambers Word Wizard, if you start with the "other" 5 letters.
trux 31d has only one ending as the word matches the group in the down clues.
As I mentioned earlier on this thread the anagram begins at 31d and runs down and along the bottom of the grid to the final letter in 39d.
Even if the 14 letter word is not in your Chambers, if you google 31d with 1a you should find it.

Thank you, dr B and "kayak" (sorry to be so familiar) .... quite easy when one interprets it like that ! And, of course, even in 1990 the BRB has the appropriate word which now explains the link (weakish IMHO) .... and title is silly, too, as its "resurrection" to correct status is in no way connected to the method of solving the rest of the puzzle .... might as well as have been "Piper's Vat" or some such other nonsense .... (any more - better - suggestions ?) .... Vindicates my upgrade to spending more time on the Listener, methinks ....
Hello drb & trux, delighted that others also found it confusing, I seemed to get there more by good luck and flights of fancy than deduction. Had the pdm an hour ago (whilst listening to the howling wind trying to rip the windows out, dread what the veg garden is going to look like) when I realised I had forgotten the double duty letter, makes marginally more sense now!
Have been musing about where all we EV adicts are based and how our weather is behaving at a certain time - here on the Lancs/Cumbrian border we are being blown away, drb is possibly our most western placement in the American Mid-west, Christina we know has recently moved north to Lincolnshire from Portugal. DocHH resides besides the sea in Sussex, Joglers I (probably wrongly) seem to think hale from not too far south from me and Novalis possibly a little further south of them, say Cheshire? Copelander (where are you Copelander?) is our Irish correspondent and our long-lost Physicsgirl (+ mini) from N Yorkshire everyone else I don't have a clue! I'm just musing (whilst supposed to be doing some work) so if you think I'm being nosey, ignore me.

Hello everyone,
As I was away at the weekend, didn't get round to EV until today. Had to catch up on all those crosswords I'd missed by going away, plus ensuring that the Green Wheelie Bin was full to the brim for collectiion tomorrow!. I certainly learnt a new word this week, thankfully the first 5 letters helped me find it in the BRB. After that treatment I think I'd have occipital pain!
Back to the weekend away, I never cease to be amazed by the things some Visually Impaired People (from now on to be known as VIPs) do. I am aware of some who have done parachute jumps, parascending, false rock face climbing, mountaineering, web-site design and even photography! I find it quite humbling, especially as the small amount of time I spend on the Talking Newspaper is so greatly appreciated.
Devadolly, you have correctly placed me on the Costa del Geriatrica! The weather yesterday was blowing a gale, but dry, it then degenerated to drizzly winds. Today started nicely, with sunshine, clouding over towards mid-day, remaining warm, a little blustery and by 16.30 threatening rain, which hasn't actually arrived, YET! It is not cold however.
