Three to go ...

1A: Assist a tenor and soprano around grounds (6) _ T _ _ _ A

[the 4th letter of 1A is the first of 3D]

3D: One departs in minority protest? (9) _ _ I _ I _ E _ T

12A: Old-fashioned display is cut (4) S _ E _
The best offering I have for 12A is SHEW but I'm not entirely happy with it.

Help appreciated please.

I can if you've made a mistake & entered 'capIScum' instead of 'capSIcum' (?)

If so, see magistra's 2nd answer above...

1a Stadia

Shew is correct old form of Show. Letter S is an an abbreviation of Is, Hew to cut.
s = 's, hew = cut
3d might be DISSIDENT. Are you sure the first i is correct?

Many thanks for SHEW [I had not thought of S as meaning IS]
Thanks also for STADIA - I can understand the GROUNDS but not the Tenor or Soprano.
I think the first I of 3D is correct, it comes from: 9A: Beat with improvised music - it could lead to something hot (8) to which I have entered CAPISCUM.
Stadia - 'aid' + a t(enor) + s(oprano) (around = reversed)

Many thanks Lie-in King - I got it fixed in my head that Soprano was going to be SOP. Can you help with 3D by any chance? The first letter is now D.

Surely it's Dissident as magistra said.

The other answer is capSicum not how you have it (?)

Many thanks to all of you - you are all so very good, as ever. I am getting too old for this - and a little lacking in brain power.
