Hello everyone,
As soon as I saw that a qoutation had to hilighted, and that the real name of the author, plus the work it comes from also had to be similarly shaded, I just knew this EV was one for the Classicists! Populated the grid quickly, then spent a while staring at it, looking for inspiration. At that stage I was probably a hater of mankind, certainly one who distrusts everyone else!
Weather here is awful, just right for a Tempranillo!

Yes (although I'm not quite there yet) the grid is an easy fill. I'd recommend this to the new comers without doubt.
All clues seem to be on a consistent level here I found? Which for the setter is a skill without leaning either way on difficulty.

Got it! - I too had been staring seeking inspiration for some time. Incidentally I could only find this thread by searching on google for EV 935. Searches for that or naughty boy in answerbank yielded no results!

zita-green - 57a is in Chambers and is not a proper noun. It is an Edmundism!

Hi zita-green. 57a is an adjective (think of an abbreviation for representative within the crew of a boat) and gives a Spenserian word.

Am still staring blankly at the completed grid looking for inspiration. DocHH's hints have had me looking for thereal name of a French dramatist ( which came up inour quiz league on Wednesday ) but I can't see it so I'm looking elsewhere.

Unless it's the highlighting part, don't worry about that. Unless it was like Adam's 'merchandise' Listener then it may take a while. Otherwise this is not tough.

Tweaker - Adam's merchandise seemed easier to me than this one, highlighting wise, though the clues are much simpler - Chaque a son gout, you could say.

Evening all, nothing too exciting about the grid fill, but the highlighting was well enough disguised, with scant information on what one was looking for, to redeem the puzzle for me.

Agree with all the comments so far - I found my attention wandering a bit during the grid fill, but the interest of the highlighting more than made up for it.

Got the quote now, a rather nice denouement I thought this week. Shading all looks very pretty but not sure it has any significance, unless it is meant to look a bit like Homer Simpson eating a doughnut

What I like about this thread is that, unlike other Crossword threads, posters go round the houses and never reveal their secrets, lest they be accidentally exposed to the Great Unwashed, permanently mired in the slough of the Times Cryptic.
