Hi, I think I've finished but just need a couple explaining...

18dn Dog register?
T?R?I?R
Must be "terrier" given the letters, but can't get the 'register' bit of the clue.

1dn Strong, for beer: 9-1 against the CPS taking the case?

It's "ten per cent proof", and I guess "ten per cent pro" is the 9-1 against, but don't get how the "of" then fits with the CPS bit.

terrier - double definition
9-1 =10%

if the CPS decide not to prosecute then the charge can be left 'on file'
so
"against the CPS taking the case" = for 'on file' = pro O.F.

Thanks both!

Never heard of terrier as a legal term for a land register.

O.F. - on file of course. Wow, Araucaria went the long way round for two letters there!
I think it might be simpler than that. If the odds are 9-1 against then there is ony 10 per cent proof and the Crown Prosecution Service would be unlikely to take the case
... and ten per cent proof, in alcoholic terms, is indeed strong beer. This is pretty much a double definition clue wrapped up in a way that makes it seem a lot more complicated than it is. It held me up for a while, too.
