Because quietly i nearly ring the number (7) A?P???N - I think it is AS P I RIN but don't get the number bit

P = quietly
I = I
RIN = nearly ring
Aspirin is a 'number' i.e. something which makes you numb...
I'm sure you are right, but why does P =quietly?
number as in painkiller

P short for piano (Italian for quiet, used in musical notation).
P is 'quiet' in music, i think, bibblebub

Got another that is probably easy too -Wild bone in the river (4) E?R? - I have EBRO but am not sure how!

no wonder its a local cryptic......a norfolk paper perhaps?
It looks like the clue has been misprinted and should read bore for bone (think Severn Bore) which would make the reading of the clue rather better.
