I'm also away for Christmas & New year and would like to solve it before I leave.

Work a la Titian- portrayal ultimately of birthday (10)

Fossil left in university e.g lecturer (10)
Question Author
natalitial (anagram of a la titian + y (from end of birthday)
lingulella (a fossil) L(left) in u eg all (anagram)
Graudian - do you have Grid A and/or Grid B for this clue
winning ball amid cheers, with aim somewhat awry, a rugby player's weaving inside
Question Author
Sorry Graudian: natalitial (anagram of a la titian + L from end of portrayal) birthday is the definition
Hi bearboy

Thanks for those. Sorry I haven''t got that one yet but will come back here if I solve it.

Cheers.
Hi bearboy

Influenzal (influential)
Question Author
brilliant Graudian - do you have the other 10 letter one or rather (2,2,1,5)
bearboy I think it could be 'up to a point'

G
Incidentally I have the 'seasonal work' and I knew the second verse but not the first!
Question Author
"up to a point" was my initial idea, but don't see the word play. I'm still puzzling on the seasonal work- is it a christmas carol?
I took it as-

UP (winning) O (ball) amid TA (cheers) POINT (aim)

It is not a carol.
Question Author
I think I now have the seasonal work ,thanks graudian, and the second verse does concur with what I've done to some of the clues in Grid B. Now to fit the jgsaw Grid A together.
Good luck.
Hi

is the seasonal answer to do with walter?

Also when you add the letter to the across clues in grid b- is it in the word rather than at the end?

I presume you just knock the first letter off the other across clues?

Thanks

DJA
I don't understand your "Walter" connection (I could just be thick!) My seasonal work is to do with Tennyson. In GRID B you either add a letter (always the same one) or take off a letter (always the same one) for the across clues to fit in.Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more djawhufc!
Sorry djawhufc I didn't answer clearly - the extra letter can go in anywhere in the word (beg or end or in the middle somewhere) Similarly the letter taken out can be from anywhere. All GRID B entries are real words so you will soon see where to add or minus the appropriate letter.

I had the answer to the "Winning ball amid cheeers with aim somewhat" clue in grid A.
I found that the four 10 letter answers revealed so far in this thread (naughty, naughty) would only fit together in one way and that, as they all came from the first clue in each pair of clues, that would be in Grid A.. This provided a good way to start the fill for grid A. 24A is, as you know, to be entered thematically. The square count is, as you have already, 8 letters, but the clue gives 9. So you need to lose a letter as specified by the first line of the second verse. The cross is an animal.
