What an excellent puzzle with a number of different layers. Many thanks MynoT. Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

Managed to escape on holiday to warm climes just before the first december snowfall, and got back just in time to be snowed in by the second arrival of the white stuff. So my EV head wasn't fully in gear today for a while! Quite agree this EV was most enjoyable, and Christmas the same. We managed a stroll along the seafront yesterday and today, to listen to the band! Saw some hardy souls go for a swim in the sea today!

Season's greetings, all. Not too difficult but a nice break on the day after Xmas. For better or worse we are celebrating the season with about 30-35 of my wife's family members in our house today, so the puzzle was the calm before the storm, so to speak. A few days of traveling to see my dad and brother will follow. Back to normal on Thursday!
Unable to get a copy of the newpaper today and the Telegraph website is playing silly whatnots and not allowing new sign-ins. I notice that drb is up to his eyebrows in festivity so don't like to burden him even further - so I wonder if any of the n&c'ers would be kind enough to send a scanned copy through to us. [email protected]. Very many thanks.
Hello All, welcome back DocHH, where did you go? I presume the tan has turned to rust with the snow and cold! Have got today's offering (and very enjoyable I am finding it) but like the Joglers I couldn't get into the DT Crossword Club (decided to try it after all) and still they won't let me in, so does anyone have the Sat cryptic and/or the GK? Would be very grateful if they could send it to me at [email protected] if they could.
You do have a busy Christmas drb, what you need is a fully fitted garden shed with a complete range of crosswords aids and a wine store.

Hi all, and a belated season's greeting to everyone.
Have just finished the EV from a week ago, and all set to try yesterday's. Inspired by the comments from AndrewG-S I too tried to register for a trial of the Telegraph website and again failed. Any chance of someone sending me the Edgar enigmatic pretty please? (have got yesterday's thanks to a fairly reliable newsagent). My e-mail is [email protected]
Good to see all the regulars here - have been following the threads but usually about a week after the event!

Yes I wonder about Physics girl and the Minis (we don't yet know what variety or whether it's a singular or multiple mini 2) Also missing, apart from very fleeting entries of late, are copelander and novalis. We definately need a good "Bit of a Do" in DC............that will spark DocHH into life if nothing else!
Enjoyed the last two EV's, didn't find them too easy but always managed that bit more to make one keep plodding on, as to this week's haven't found all the letters, do we have to do anything with them? Stuffed if we do!
Note for Christina, the 2 tons of apples left on the lawn have been good for the blackbirds this year, the apples are disappearing at a rate of knots and yesterday I counted 23 blackbirds having a good peck, no wonder there are none around the house. Will have to get some out of store when they finish up.
Off for a New Year knees up (Himself works Christmas and his Bro NY) in Ambleside and will not be back until Sunday so to all the EV N & C'ers a very Happy New Year and hope to commune with all you friends of the ether throughout 2011. Thanks again for all your help when I've been beaten and down.......

Sorry to have been notice-able by my absence. When Herself is here, I have to be dutiful!
Devadolly, holiday was on the southern coast of Dominican Republic, and still some tan left. For some strange reason, Herself has started insisting on being in the best part of the plane when we fly long-haul, not that I take much persuading. She also insists on Executive Lounges at airports!
AndrewG-S, can see quite a bit of the Downs from a side window of home, I'd describe it as rather cold than pretty! There were at least 6inches of snow on the beach here on each of the 2 december visitations of the white stuff!
Dr b, 30 to 35 of your wife's family in one go! Martyr is the word that springs to mind!
I'd also like to hear about Physics Girl and minis!
Christiana, I hope you are now comfortably settled in your UK home, albeit flitting southwards frequently.
Jogler(s), I have trouble keeping up with where you are, which are your favourite Motorways, do you have time-shares at each Service Station?
Ringer, your Avatar reminds me of how much Mathematics I have forgotten! Still makes me laugh though.
However in the meantime I hope all the EV N&C Wine Clubbers had really nice Christmas, and wish you all a Quiet and Prosperous New Year.

Yes, I'm still here, Devadolly. Didn't start this crossword til yesterday, but enjoyed its message of cheer. We've been up to our knees in snow until yesterday when the rains came.....most unusual for snow to lie for more than 3 or 4 days here on the coast, but the roads were dreadful for almost a week with snow falling on ice, then refreezing, then it all happening again and again. The white stuff starts to lose its charm after a while! The "children" were both home with us over Christmas which has been lovely and we will all celebrate New Years Eve together...a now exceedingly rare treat. DocHH, the warm Caribbean sounds wonderful. I agree with your wife about upgrading for long-haul....it makes the journey part of the holiday. DrB, are you now snowed in with all those in-laws? A very happy 2011 to all N&Cers.
