Thanks bibblebub but I am fairly certain that 5d is correct ( french clef) so it should be
?N?L?S?. I know ENDORSE means to support but where does the witch come into it ?
5d is french LOAF
Endor is the witch
The Witch of Endor - don't have crossword to know the clue for 5d
Endor = witch....S(outh)E(ast) = point - ENDORSE = support
Witch of Endor from the bible book Samuel

bibblebub...many thanks to you and kayakamina. 5d is as follows "Etre faineant-and maybe stick" I know the french phrase means lazy and perhaps cleft stick comes into it somewhere but after that I'm buggered ! Sometimes Araucaria just loses me !
'French Loaf' - an lazy person in France!
French loaf (loaf = laze)
And a Stick!
