I was thinking Dates, but these are not dates, also Figs [figures]. But am not happy with either of these

Definitely a hyphen between 61 and 70? If it were a slash, it would at least have some sort of pattern...

In codes, pairs often relate to letters, words or paras. So 72/07 could mean 'take the 72nd letter of the seventh word (or para)'. But obviously you need a source text for that (the quiz itself?). That would lead to a five-letter word, which sounds good.

they are the dates of their reigns

edward the IV is a bit strange because he reigned from 61 to 83 but had to leave for France in 1470 and return in 1471,so a bit of a mistake in the clue
