i have put alarm call but i can't see why?
ALARM CALL – a ring given as a reminder of an event is built up from a word meaning “of a flapper” or “of a wing” with a shady walk around C(aught)

very obtuse thank you dave
Sorry, BigDave44, but I can't follow your explanation.
I get the c for caught. Is ARM the flapper? What is the shady walk?
ALAR means "of a wing" and MALL is the shady walk
Thanks. I wasn't aware of that meaning of MALL, but I've checked and it's correct.
