Have been trying to work this out all today, but still no joy. Can anyone help, please:

"Welcome to a European city with an eastern skyline where a great conflict was triggered. The end of the 20th century was marked by tragedy, and an Irish Italian collaboration sang its song to the world. It has views over Olympic slopes, and its most famous hotel is one of the most recognisable budget brands of them all. Name the city".

The four pix are (a) a black and white photo of a moustachio-ed world leader - possibly Archduke Ferdinand?, (b) possibly a hotel building mostly yellow in colour, (c) a picture with a russian looking minaret/tower in the background and another monument in the foreground (d) a picture of two outstretched arms, possibly dancers or skaters, with blue/purple outfits on.

Hope someone can help, I am completely stumped.

Sounds like Sarajevo, where Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, precipitating WWI.

I'm fairly sure it is Sarajevo, chokkie. Origins of the first world war as the Archduke Ferdinand (top left hand picture?) was assassinated there, the siege at the turn of the next century, and the bottom left photo is similar to images in google. I could not find the Eurovision song contest clue and didn't follow up the hotel clue either.
