"You saw a shirt for £97. You didn't have the cash, so you borrowed £50 from your mom and £50 from your dad = £100. You bought the shirt.and had £3 change. You gave your dad £1 and your mom £1 and kept the other £1 for yourself. Now you owe your mom £49 and your dad £49. 49+49 = 98 + your £1 = 99. Where is the missing £1?"

This is a variation of a very old chestnut

Basically the mathematical equations are mismatched
you can have
either: value of shirt plus £1 each, 97 + 3 =100
or: 50 +50 = 100, then 49 + 1 +49 +1 =100
the £1 you keep does not belong in this calculation!
It's nowhere because it was never part of the equation...
it's in either your dad's pocket or your mum (or mom if you're that way inclined)'s purse... or fallen out of your dad's pocket down the back of his comfy chair so you should go and get it quick to help feed your habit for expensive shirts!
You've forgotten about your shirt ! You don't just have £1 at the end , you have £1 + the shirt (£97) =£98 of value , matching the £49 +£49 that you owe mom and dad , with you having given them the £1 and £1 earlier . making the £100 that you owe them . Some people would forget their shirt if they didn't have it on !
you actually owed mum and dad £48.50 each i.e. half what the shirt cost, so you owe them 50p each from the £1 in your pocket, which was never yours
the taxman took it,he takes everything else.
