I can't get away from CHERRIES and DECADENT, but can't work them out! and could 17a be CHEERFUL? What would that make 16d?

17a Cheries ( Sweet in French (Nice) + R (first of ripe) = CHERRIES fruit

16d AD (advertisement) in DECENT (becoming) = DECADENT - morally weak
