Apologies for anyone who recognises this from last night, but it wasn't really solved.
One might expect it to be counter productive (4) S???
No stamp required:the situation is vacant (4,4) ???? ?O?T
Having shocking potential (8) E?E???I?
The 3rd letter in the first answer is also the 2nd letter of the 2nd answer.Also the 4th letter of the 2nd answer is also the 5th letter of the 3rd answer which means the obvious answers to 2 and 3 of "free post" and "electric" are not compatible with each other.Anyone who can come up with answers I thank.

Bibblebub, you made me think and sorry to all I had made an elementary error."shop" , "post free" and "electric" will fit after I had corrected another answer. Thanks anyway. Oh and don't worry I caused myself to waste quite a lot of time trying to fathom it out !!!!

Lol, I bet quite a few have. There's no prize attached to it.My only excuse is that my mother starts the crossword and I tend to come along and fill in any gaps.What she puts in is usually correct so I don't bother to check it.
