OK - can any listener/magpie solver provide me with the unch in 4d. That's all I need - one single letter. I'm no good with tennis players.
By the way, if the puzzle author is on this blog, very nice puzzle indeed.

unch? clue? Is by Eclogue part of the church name?
Question Author
Huh? It's a crossword. Bit of a clue when I wrote 'puzzle' and 'solver' in the text. Eclogue is the pseudonym of this puzzle's author.
Obviously it's crossword but what is the actual clue ? How many letters and have you any letters placed ?
"Unch " means nothing to us if we don't have the full clue .
What's an unch?
I've an 'unch that 'unch' is an abbreviation for 'unchecked'?
this is a strange thread
And I'm afraid it will remain strange until the OP tells us the clue and number of letters + those already known.
In the meantime did you have a nice Christmas?
Question Author
Wow - what a great number of answers. Thanks - and yes, dtgblue - I have had a very merry Xmas. Hope you all did as well.
I was going on the assumption that the only people who replied would be those who knew about the Magpie (an online crossword publication in the manner of the times Listener) and therefore knew the crossword to which I was referring in the title. Since this assumption was wrong (but not unjustified - the only people who contribute to Listener threads are listener solvers) I should have been more specific.
Never mind though, for I have now solved it anyway, after trawling through a wiki list of tennis players. Shaneystar - the letters in this case belonged to a jumbled clue, so I had originally no idea of their order. Gen2 - you have it correct. An Unch is an unchecked letter in the grid. Are you a listener solver? Yes, dtgblue, this is (or perhaps now we should say was) a strange thread, made even stranger by the first reply. Who mentioned churches?!
Anyway, thanks for the replies, even if they were confused.
Can't leave without answering the original question, I suppose.
The Unchecked letter in question was an L. (I know that won't help any of you, but at least we have closure). Happy new year, everyone!
"I know that won't help any of you, but at least we have closure "
Well ..bully for you .
You assume far too much and ..yes ..you should have been more specfic .Not all of us are Listener afficionados or Magpie for that matter so had no idea what you were rambling on about .Just trying to help .
Head your post .." Crossword snobs only " in future
So sorry we were confused .
I doubt I have ever seen a more annoying question or response posted on this forum.
You posted an unintelligible question, totally ignoring the Quizzes and Puzzles guidelines, then patronised those who tried to help you .
I doubt you'll get much help here in future.
It is an accepted (by all but the questioner, apparently) principle that Magpie puzzles should not be discussed on the Internet before the closing date for the puzzle. This thread is entirely inappropriate.
report it then, cymroneth, if it shouldn't be here.
