thankyou quinie and katburd ,i had thought of greetings but coldn't work out why, so thanks for your explanation ,i had also thought of sleigh but the meaning for that is kill,what do you think quinie ? thanks again and happy new year to you both and to all on answerbank

Happy New Year to you and yours,jim45.Like you I'm a wee bit dubious of sleigh-don't think it really fits the clue but nobody has suggested anything else yet. Was sleigh not the answer to another clue or perhaps that was a different quiz?
