Having quickly completed the grid, found the misprints and (hopefully) solved the cryptic hint I am now struggling to find that "geographical context". I'm probably being very stupid but any tips would be gratefully received!

Many thanks Turnerjmw. I had no idea those threads were there! By the time I read them I had already found the inhabitants I knew what the location had to be, but was completely at a loss re the blocks. It has now become clear so I'm happy!
