I have made a number of posts with regard to the quiz I am doing 'Villages & Hamlets in the Lake District National Park' and am very grateful for all help and suggestions I have received. I have only 1 more question to answer and cannot find the answer. Any help/suggestions would be most welcome and gratefully received. The question is 'Angry smallest county (7,5)'. As mentioned above the answers is a village/hamlet in the Lake District National Park. I have looked on maps and searched Google. I am finding that 'Rutland' is the smallest county and would definitely fit the first word with 7 letters. I am also thinking 'cross' (angry) for the second half of clue. I have searched and searched for a place called Rutland Cross but cannot find anything relating to it.
Please, please could someone suggest something for me? Does anyone know of a place called ??????? Cross in the Lake District or even come up with a totally different answer altogether.
Hi,julie317, I've been puzzling over this one and am stumped. Thought of the smallest county in Scotland,Wales but in vain, different words for smallest and co for county etc.Won't give in-yet
may i make a suggestion? it involves a little work.
study the map of the area and find every place that is named with 7 and 5 letters. then work out which of those would work out to fit the clue given.
it is a technique i have used in the past when stumped
Rutland is (or rather was, as it now forms part of Leicestershire I believe) the smallest county, and Rutland Water is in Rutland............so I don't think it's that, Stoatie. However, I don't know of anything with 'Rutland' in it in The Lake District. Will keep trying!
Thanks you all for your help. It is really appreciated. I will keep trying. i have not heard of Bing maps Balric but I will have a good look now. Thank you all and please don't give up thinking !!! :)
The only (7,5) That I can find on the OS map is Eskdale Green, but that really doesn't fit in with your clue. Should have realised about Rutland Water, being a Midlander !!! Is it Friday yet ??
I found a Rusland Cross.Could the setter perhaps have made a mistake or am I just clutching at straws? In any case must away and get some housework done!
But it isn't Rutlandshire katburd, it's just Rutland. Maybe the Rusland Cross is right - Rutland isn't very pleased because it's name has been mis-spelt!
lol I love all your answers and your ways of thinking. It really has me stumped as all the other answers seem quite obvious when I finally got them (with a little help)! I am still open to suggestions though. Thank you all :)
