Earlier area of work by Eugenides. I think Middlesex is the answer but why 'earlier'? Can anyone please explain.

If it is correct (as I have read) that Jeffrey Eugenides has only published two novels in his career is it not more likely that the answer to this question is his earlier work, The Virgin Suicides?

Sorry biley, I forgot to say the rainbow quiz involves all the answers including a UK town or place name within it. This particular answer is 1 word of 9 letters.

No problem! Yes Middlesex has to be correct - I think the "earlier" is because Middlesex is no longer in existence as a county (it has not been since being absorbed into Greater London in 1965 - or so the Hutchinson encyclopedia says!).
