The clue is 'Dickens officer a brave Liberal, we're told ' (7,7) Captain Bobadil fits the clue as Dickens played this character in the play 'Every Man in his Humour' but doesn't fit the description of Bobadil in the literature. Thanks for Webb - it's probably right.
