Averages

Could someone please explain how to do this problem for me? I know it's very simple maths, but I'm dim.     

A basketball team scored an average of 82 points over 5 games. After the sixth game their average was 84 points. How many points did they score in their sixth game?

I bet you figured that out in like 2 seconds, but I told you, I'm not good with maths and teachers don't help, they just wave you away and tell you it's ridiculous saying you can't do long division and they don't even bother with the really dim kids who need alot of help.

Answer is 94 points

After 5 games the average id 82 points, therefore the total points scored after 5 games is 5x82=410

After 6 games the average is 84 points, therefore the total points scored after 6 games is 6x84=504

Thus the team must have scored 94 points (504 - 410) in their 6th game
