MM Links October 2012 Week 4
Lady Jill here, for the last time.
My theme last week was Hobbies. One thing I didn’t mention was gardening , probably because to me it’s a chore, not a pleasant leisure activity. A combination of circumstances has meant that I’ve had to take over the garden at home, and it doesn’t come naturally to me. I certainly don’t enjoy the day-to-day weeding, and our lawn is on an uphill slope (yes, I know that means it’s downhill coming back, but the back-breaking bit has been done by then!). Weeds grow as soon as I turn my back, two resident squirrels are competing to see which one can dig the deepest hole to bury hazelnuts, and the bamboos need cutting back again… However, I do enjoy a major project, and have tried to create a bank of heather round an old tree stump and attempted to build a rockery; but basically the plan is to keep everything as low maintenance as possible. And I must admit that raking up rustling leaves on a crisp autumn morning makes me feel at peace with the world.
