Don't worry, I'm not about to become one of the spelling police brigade on here as I know typos happen. However on Facebook the number of people who can't spell is getting ridiculous. The most common errors are 'your' for 'you're', 'their/there' for 'they're' and 'loose' for 'lose'. The latter doesn't even sound like the same word!! What do you think? It's not textspeak, it's just bad spelling.

Don't get me started on ignorant teachers; I could fill a whole website with my anecdotes, beginning with the Head of Remedial English who came into the staff room at the end of break to enquire, "Has the bell went yet?"

The worst I've seen on FB was... "Someone learn me the guitar?!"

So stupid!
Poor spelling makes me cringe anywhere. Being married for forty plus years to a dyslexic has however, made me much more patient.
Himself can't spell for toffee. He was born in Germany so learnt German first, then when he came back here he learnt to spell using ITA (a phonetic based system). He still managed to become a deputy head of a primary school though (god knows how though).
Even worse than bad spelling is apostrophe wrongly used e.g We sell pear's. apple's etc!
Agree about poor spelling anywhere. Definately! And isn't that the word that's most commonly wrong?
It's the old trick question:

Q - Which word is most often spelled incorrectly?
A - Incorrectly.
It's not just FB. 'Loose me out' instead of 'let me out' is my current bugbear.
I can spell and am reasonably literate, having said that I hang my head in shame when I read back some of my posts on AB!

I think speed is key to this, my head and hands aren't fully aligned when I post answers.

Loose and lose do drive me mad though.....
separate is another word that is often spelt wrongly.
Sherr. ITA did a great deal of damage. When I had a Browne Pack with children from different schools it was easy to tell which were using ITA.
erin-x, I think you're being too harsh, they could spell "guitar".
At the end of the week we were having a Friday natter and moan and I commented about how many pupils incorrectly wrote "could of" and a young member of my department said Why, what's wrong with that? She had an accountancy degree and was retraining as a Maths teacher in which she excelled. We thought she was joking but apparently not!
Ooooo. Browne or Brownie.........ITA? :-)
Ok, Sherrard has provided me with an excuse/defence I learnt to read and wrote using ITA!!!
^^^priceless...although that was a keyboard error....write not wrote!
I was at an event today during which speeches were shown on a huge screen. All very professional except that the word "genius" was used a number of times.
The spelling each time was "genious".
Its horendose, Im dicusted.
Tryd oyntment Mick?
People who use extra !!!!!!!!!! for no apparent reason really bug me.....grrrrrrr.
Not as bad as apostrophes !!!!!!!!!
It's not only FB....I get really annoyed at the incorrect spelling in the Newspaper. There are so many mistakes. Doesn't anyone proof read anymore?
