1. Mine, perhaps...as in "He's a mine of useless information."

2. Invest...that does mean 'besiege' as well as 'put money into'.

Surely No 1 needs to be a noun, not a verb/adjective, K, 'source' being the key word in the clue?

Where did I get the idea that 'rife' could be a verb?! I was obviously thinking of 'infest/invest' at the time.
Qm - Both of my answers were instantaneous responses before seeing your answer and as such I thought I would add them to 'the mix'.  I take your point about adj. rife not fitting the context of the clue.
