1) what is the name of the crossword setter?

2) Circe = circ(l)e - she appears in the Odyssey
3) yes, wash - it can mean to bear investigation i.e. to stand up
4. Could this be Rothko? Rot for pants, his knee caps h & k, o for old.

Can't tell name of crossword setter - managed to tear that off when taking crossword out of paper :O(

i only asked because there's the possibility that the setter might have a 3 letter name which would be put outside of S [second] to get the answer
